My time at MANIT has been incredible so far! The huge 650-acre campus gives me room to breathe and explore, while the electrical engineering program challenges me academically. I've built amazing friendships and learned tons from both professors and seniors. There's a perfect balance between academics and extracurriculars here that's helped me grow as a person, not just as a student.I picked MANIT mainly because of its reputation as one of the original NITs and its strong engineering programs.

Campus Facilities: MANIT's academic infrastructure is spread across multiple blocks, each housing different departments. The main academic area consists of about 10-12 buildings arranged in a somewhat circular pattern. The Electrical Engineering department is housed in a three-story building that's painted yellow (like most campus buildings). It has a distinct old-school charm but shows signs of aging. The department has dedicated floors for classrooms, faculty offices, and specialized labs. Other notable buildings include the central Administrative Block (a more modern structure), the Workshop buildings, and the newer Computer Science block. Most academic buildings are connected by covered walkways which help during monsoons. The layout follows a traditional campus design with buildings surrounding open green spaces, though the distances between some departments can be significant.
Campus Life: Campus life at MANIT is vibrant and multifaceted despite some infrastructure limitations. The sprawling 650-acre campus creates a self-contained ecosystem where academic pursuits blend with social interactions and extracurricular activities. A typical day involves rushing to morning classes, grabbing quick snacks at the department canteen between lectures, studying in the library or hanging out with friends in the evening, and returning to hostels for night study sessions or club activities. Weekends often feature club events, sports tournaments, or trips to Bhopal city for a change of scenery. The academic pressure is significant but balanced by a rich student culture that encourages exploration beyond textbooks. The large campus size means you're always discovering new spots even after years of being here. There's never a dull moment with something always happening - whether it's a technical workshop, cultural rehearsal, or sports match.
Faculty: The faculty background is quite diverse. Most senior professors have 15+ years of teaching experience along with significant research work. About 60% of the professors have PhD degrees from IITs, while others come from NITs and state universities. A few professors have industry experience before joining academia, which brings practical insights to their teaching. For example, one of our professors worked with BHEL for 5 years before joining MANIT, and his real-world examples make power plant engineering much more relatable. The department also has visiting faculty occasionally from industry partners like NTPC and PowerGrid. Publication records vary among professors - some are highly active in research with numerous international journal publications, while others focus more on teaching.
Placements: The placement cell at MANIT does an excellent job connecting students with opportunities, organizing training sessions, mock interviews, and company-specific preparation. Major recruiters include both tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon as well as core electrical companies like NTPC and Siemens. The average package for Electrical graduates is around ?15.6 LPA, with the highest reaching ?52 LPA for tech roles and ?18 LPA for core electrical positions. As a second-year student, I'm already participating in pre-placement activities to prepare for my turn in a couple of years. Overall, MANIT blends academic rigor with practical opportunities in a vibrant campus setting that makes for a fulfilling college experience.
Salary Package: 14 - 16 Lakhs
Start Up Incubator: The Rolta Innovation and Incubation Center, established through funding from Rolta Foundation, provides critical infrastructure for budding entrepreneurs. Located in a separate building near the administrative block, it offers modern facilities including co-working spaces, meeting rooms, basic prototyping equipment, and high-speed internet connectivity. The center is managed by faculty coordinators with industry experience and operates with partial autonomy from regular academic administration. Together, these entities help students in numerous ways like Seed funding opportunities through business plan competitions where winners receive initial capital (?50,000-?2 lakh) to develop their ideas. The annual "Ideathon" is particularly popular, attracting participants from all departments. Mentorship programs connecting students with successful entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and MANIT alumni who have established their own ventures. These mentors provide guidance on business models, market research, and technical feasibility. Startup workshops covering essential topics like company registration, intellectual property rights, financial planning, and pitching techniques. These practical sessions fill gaps in the traditional engineering curriculum.
