About East Central Railways:
Before 1996-97, Indian Railway comprised of nine Zones. On16.06.96, Ministry of Railways chose to setup six new Zones tobe cut out of the current system of Indian Railway by rearrangement of the current zones. East Central Railway with its Headquarters at Hajipur in Bihar is one of these six new zones.
East Central Railway was introduced on 08.09.96 and an Officer on Special Duty of the rank of General Manager was posted.Development of makeshift Zonal Office Building for E. C. Railroad covering 3100 sqm. region was finished in June, 97 and center gathering of Officers and staff posted. E. C. Railroad began looking so as to work after a percentage of the exercises of Sonpur and Samastipur Division. In spite of the fact that the Zone was first set up on September 8, 1996 with Headquarters at Hajipur, Bihar, it got to be operational on first October, 2002. East Central Railway was cut out ofEastern and North Eastern Railway comprising of the divisions to be specific Dhanbad, Danapur, Mughalsarai from Eastern Railways and Sonepur and Samastipur out of North Eastern Railway. The most recent eleven years of its presence has been loaded with difficulties and each impediment was managed in a committed way notwithstanding limitations of work power and base.
