About Cantonment Board:
Landour Cantonment adjoins the well-known hill station of Mussoorie, but is of considerably higher elevation, as, while the higher inhabited part of Mussoorie, Blucher's Hill, is 7,187 feet and the main station about 6,500 feet, Landour runs up to 7,538 at the Roman Catholic Church and 7,464 feet at Lal Tiba, while the Mall, or Circular Road is about 7,200 feet. The convalescent depot at Landour dates from 1827, or 1828. At that time Landour was better known than Mussoorie, which consisted of only a few houses, but, since then, things have changed and Landour is now merely the military part of Mussoorie, although it is not included in Municipal limits.Landour, which was included in the Dehra Dun Brigade, was mainly composed of the convalescent Depot. The Commandant of the Depot was ex-officio Commanding Officer, of the station. There was also a 1st class Station Staff Officer, who represented the Commandant during the winter season. The Cantonment Magistrate of Dehra Dun also included Landour in his charge.
